Technically: Hypnosis is the process of bypassing the critical mind and having direct access to the unconscious mind.

OK so what is it for the rest of us? Hypnosis is the ability to travel into the unconscious mind. You could think of it in computer systems terms. Imagine for a moment that: The brain is the hardware The mind is the software The unconscious mind is the operating system The conscious mind is the application programs The thoughts are the data.

Hypnosis is the ability to change things in the area of the operating system. If there is a problem in the data the individual can easily change the information by hitting a few keys. If the problem is at the level of the operating system then no amount of data entry will solve this problem. The application program will have to be shut down and maintenance performed on the system. Hypnosis is the means by which we close the application program and have access to the operating system or the unconscious mind.

What is Hypnotherapy? If hypnosis is the process of accessing the operating system. Hypnotherapy is what you do when you get there.

In this section of study you will be mainly looking at the process of hypnosis and alternate hypnotic therapies.

It is expected that with your knowledge of NLP all of the basics of rapport, language patterns, representational systems, levels of abstraction and strategies are understood.
